| What Will You Need? |
Furniture
For your first week bring a drop-in seat, a pin-stuffed seat and a sprung dining chair. You should be able to complete them all. Typically a fireside chair can be re-built in one week and an armchair can take two. We discourage students from trying to complete too much in too short a time.
Fabrics
If you have your own fabrics - you are welcome to bring them. If you are unsure about the quantity you need - check with your fabric supplier or ring us, but please make sure you bring enough for the job in hand, and that it is of good quality. Many of the cheap fabrics bought at discount shops are of inferior quality and are not suitable for upholstery.
We carry a small stock of fabric suitable for one-offs like dining chairs and stools, but if you need several metres for an armchair - we would order it for you using a "Next day' delivery service from our suppliers.
We carry an extensive range of fabric sample books for you to choose from. Rome, Malabar, Castle Textiles, Titley & Marr, Monkwell, are just some of the fabric houses we use. Sundry materials such as webbing, tacks, cotton flock, hessian, glue, etc that are used on the course are recorded on sundries sheets and charged for on departure.
Other items
Please bring a notepad and don't forget your camera if you have one - you'll find it useful to record stages of your work and that of others at various stages.
Don't forget to bring old clothes. Tools - Each student is given his or her own toolbox with a dozen or so of the commonly used tools.
A wide range of tools are stocked for sale. Many students purchase their supplies and tools from us in order to get themselves started on either a new hobby or career.
Tuition starts at 9.30am and finishes at 5.30pm with an hour for lunch.
